Baby's First Boat Ride

We bought a boat last summer when I was pregnant with Lane.  Being from Minnesota (aka "the land of 10,000 lakes") we have always loved the water and being on the boat... but since the boating season is pretty short in MinneSNOWta we never chose to buy one. Now that we are living on the coast where boating can be done 10 months out of the year we decided to take the leap and get one.  It was one of the best decisions we have made.  The quality family time spent on the water is priceless in my eyes. On the water there is no stress about job changes, housework, car repairs, medical expenses, misbehaving three year olds... nothing.

It's just us, unplugged, soaking up nature's beauty in the simplest form.  Spending the whole day staring out at the water, feeling the sun bake your skin, while your little ones nap under the Bimini top from all the fresh air.  The simple picnic food tastes better... the kids seem sweeter... the conversations are more meaningful. Everything is better on the boat.  Unplugging from all of the stress, the electronics, the commotion... and just being still.

I think unplugging from life, on a boat or otherwise, is one of the most under-used forms of antidepressant there is. Sometimes I hate how connected we all are.  Social media, cell phones, emails... It sometimes makes me sad that my kids will grow up in an even more overly-connected society where we don't live and communicate simply anymore. Where we are always distracted by something.

Anyways... all that to say we love boating. :)  Lane and I haven't been out on the boat at all this year up until yesterday. It was his first time on the water. I was worried he would get fussy or the wind and waves would be too much for him... but it went perfectly. He loved it!

We spent the day cruising around the Charleston harbor, past Fort Sumter, through creeks and rivers... enjoying one if the first beautiful days this year.  Priceless.
